During my participation in the three month residency Unidee at Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto in Italy I had the opportunity to learn how to make Michelangelo Pistolettos Love Difference Gelato that was first served at the 51st Venice Biennale part of the third Paradise Exhibition.
For the ELIA conference at the Valand School of Fine Arts open house evening I created a Swedish version of the Gelato by adding ginger bread cookie spices and the very Swedish lingon berries to the ice cream. Former head of Unidee Cristiana Bottigella was invited to the event and also helped me serve the “Love Difference Sweets”. “[...] here we’ve eaten an ice-cream that we’ve called Love Difference and that aspires to being a cultural passport, a language not spoken but tasted. We created this ice-cream with halva, a tipically arab product, and we want this taste become the free software of the physical language. We want this ice-cream to be recreated, reproduced and even recombined with other ingredients, freely and by anyone that wants to. We need to start out from the idea of freedom and not exclusivity.” Michelangelo Pistoletto, Tunis 2005 | |
